Process!

This is all the wood required for the next bed. The turned post and headboard are to the left. The nasty looking piece on the right is the footboard. The other members are connecting girts. This bed will be followed closely with photos and it will evolve on this page, as soon as it's ordered and the process begins. Thanks so much for the likes and the photo likes and sharing. Dale

Some more of my woodwork

This is a handcrafted mantle I designed and made. It’s close to 7’ long, all local wood. I did not use any planners, joiners or band saw. The weight is about 180 lb. The top piece is seated over main section. The bottom corbels are chiseled out of single chunk of wood. I see it in my head and start going nuts with my mallet and chisel, making both corbels the same take some thought. I use walnut pins to hold all together. Design wise I wanted peace and comfort, with the massive feel of the mountains.  Follow Me on Tumblr , Twitter and Facebook for more updates.

more pictures of my beds

Above are some pictures of my bedframes that I sell, all wood is hand selected from the Montana mountains that surround me. I turn the posts on an old lathe and hand sand everything to perfection. My bedframes will last a lifetime with the quality and sturdiness of a tree. check out my website! www.montanabedframes.com

Getting ready for next bed!

The 23" diameter Blue pine tree I bought Two weeks ago was cut today into sizes for the next bed, beautiful wood with blue/grey flows. I will be hiking 3 miles into a burnt area in the mountains with my saw this weekend for the footboard piece. I recall their was some montana cedar in that area. Maybe see a big cat or a wolf too. 12/30/11

Introduction

This is a blog to help advertise and show the world my small business: Montana Bed Frames
It's a family business in the Bitterroot Montana, where i'm a local contractor. I make professional wood crafted bed frames with trees i hand select from the mountains that surround me. All beds are made from hand on a 1902 lathe and one hundred year old mallet. There are no nails or glue involved in the making of these timber frames. I customize each bed with natural wood and glaze, and a carved headboard I create myself. My beds are made with my passion for woodwork and the habitat that surrounds me.
